Through the Community Church of Henderson Sunday School program you will experience small classes and a teaching staff of dedicated teachers. In this church every child is welcomed and encouraged to experience an intimate relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. We offer classes for every age. Each class is specifically geared to a very personal and hands-on relationship with the student. All children meet in the Sanctuary at 9:00 AM for a time of worship before dividing up by age groups.
In the adult class, we are committed to an in-depth study and reflection of God’s Word. Each adult is encouraged to feel safe in an open caring environment where all questions are encouraged. We acknowledge that we are all pilgrims along the way. We meet every Sunday morning at 9:00 AM and we invite you to come and see what the excitement is all about!
Every Monday night there is an adult Bible study, sometimes we study a book in the Bible and generally we do a chapter a week. Other times, we study a subject using a video. That study will last between 8 and 16 weeks. We have a women’s Bible study in the fall and spring on Thursdays for 12 to 14 weeks. We have used videos with study material and discussion on various topics and books of the Bible. Periodically, we have an adult Bible study on Saturday mornings at 9:30.
Vacation Bible School
For the last nine years, the Community Church of Henderson, has had great success with our Vacation Bible School program. Kids from our families, friends and neighbors have had a great time coming to know Jesus or learning to know Him better.
The discipleship class is for believers who want to grow in their faith and deepen their ability to share the Gospel with others. It also covers a variety of subjects ranging from understanding Biblical truth to an individual’s responsibility to his church community and the community at large. It also encourages a Christian lifestyle that is becoming of the Gospel and encourages personal growth. Generally, there is one class a year that lasts from 26 to 39 weeks.
Under the direction of our very competent mentors, the youth group, ages ranging from 6th grade through high school; meet on Sunday’s at 6:00 PM for activities and Bible Study. The youth have participated in activities such as mission trips to Henderson and Las Vegas and the N.A.O.M.I. House, (an orphanage in Arizona) recreational activities locally and to California & New York. They volunteer with church activities, Serving Our Kids Foundation and the Las Vegas Rescue Mission.
Christ-Centered 12-Step Program
After worship on Sunday, we have a Christ-Centered program that loosely follows traditional 12-step programs. The emphasis primarily is on living a Christian life and being involved in study and growth as the basis for recovery.
Community Out-Reach Programs
The church is used by a variety of 12-step programs each evening with the exception of Tuesday and Sunday. This includes AA, Al-Anon and Gamblers Anonymous meetings.
Child Care and Preschool
At Community Church Christian Childcare & Preschool, we believe that children are special creations of God, each with their own strengths, needs, and interests. Jesus Christ came to save all humanity and invites children to come to know Him as their Savior and Lord. We believe that children have a better opportunity to reach this understanding in a Christian teaching, learning, and childcare setting. We desire to partner with parents and other caregivers to provide children with a Christian environment and education, which lays an important foundation for the spiritual life and overall development of the child. It is through this we believe children can reach their full God given potential.
Men’s group meets every Saturday morning at 7:30 for fellowship, coffee and rolls and discussions concerning the issues that are pertinent to the men at any particular time. All men in the church are invited to attend because in addition to the aforementioned, we have a study based either on a video with discussion or a book that lends itself to individual or group growth.
Las Vegas Rescue Mission
Through Jesus Christ, the Las Vegas Rescue Mission strives to be the model for providing hope and life-changes which equips those who seek its help for independent living and spiritual fulfillment. Through feeding the hungry, support, care and giving an introduction to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, we provide redemption, recovery and re-entry to the homeless, addicted and those in need. We are proud to have The Mission as one of our ministries. Rev. Merrill serves on the Board of Directors. He holds Ready for Life classes and small group sessions during the week. Rev. Merrill preaches on the 2nd Wednesday of each month and Leris Fadael, a member of our church; preaches on the 3rd Friday of each month. Several residences attend worship with us each Sunday and it is heartwarming to watch as the men and women from the LVRM, turn their lives around by coming to know Jesus and graduate.
Serving Our Kids
Serving Our Kids Foundation is a grassroots, volunteer organization established to utilize the strength of community organizations, volunteers and donations to ensure Clark County homeless and at-risk children are fed over the weekends. We provide personal care items to area youth as well.

We have worship on Sundays at 10:30 AM and on special occasions during Advent and Lent. At Community Church of Henderson, our worship services bring us closer to God as individuals, as families and as a community. We offer God our joyous praise, we open ourselves to God, we hear God’s Word for our world today, we receive the blessings of God’s Spirit and we take that sense of renewal back into the world.
First, at every worship service we are truly blessed by our singers, organist and pianist, we soar to the high heavens with traditional, contemporary, and sometimes even a little country music. Secondly, we are blessed again by our Bell Choir, which is featured many times throughout the Church year. The Bell Choir is made up of both children and adults. Their sounds will lead you into the Holy of Holies. Then, for the triple blessing, our Sunday School Department also offers a unique moment as the children lead us in song during the children’s sermon.
Linda Riggi is our very wonderful leader of the Bell Choir. All ages are welcome to praise the Lord with us. Please contact the church office if you would like to join our Bell Choir, or visit with Linda after worship on Sunday.
We celebrate Communion on the first Sunday of every month, Christmas Eve, Ash Wednesday and Maundy Thursday. Eucharist is always a special moment in the life of our church. Our Table is always open to share the bread and wine with all of God’s believers.
Baptism / Dedication
Baptism is one of two Sacraments that we believe in and celebrate at Community Church of Henderson. Adult baptism generally occurs once a year (more if needed) and takes place at Lake Mead. Dedication or Christening of children occurs on an as-needed basis. The parents commit to raising their child under the instruction and tutelage of the church until the child is old enough to decide for themselves that they wish to pursue and commit themselves to a life of faith.
It is always a pure joy for us to celebrate both member and non-member weddings at Community Church of Henderson. (We love weddings!) Contact the church office as soon as you have a date in mind to secure the date. Weddings can occur any day of the year except on Christmas and Easter. Rev. Merrill W. Kanouse requires marriage counseling with the engaged couple.
Funerals / Memorials
In addition to the members of our church who pass away, the church and the pastor also provide services to the community at large, whose home church may be in another state. We have also been called upon to provide grief counseling and other pertinent services to those in the community at the request of local mortuaries.
Rev. Merrill has a degree in Sociology and Psychology. In addition to his Seminary Degree, he has a Master’s Degree in Pastoral Counseling and post graduate work at the Blanton-Peale Institute of Psychiatry. Rev. Merrill has many years’ experience counseling with teens and adults, single or married couples.
Please call the church office at 702-565-8563 for more information about our church or any of these programs. Or you can contact us here.
